Soon after Team Germany’s impressive performance at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Berlin’s Paralympians got together at Kranzler Eck at the invitation of Gerhard Janetzky, President of the Berlin Athletics Association. Following a welcome by the host on the terrace of the Lindner Hotel, Friedhelm Julius Beucher, President of the National Paralympic Committee Germany, addressed the German athletes in an emotional and highly personal speech that fired them up even more for the upcoming Paralympic Games in Rio.

After an informal gathering with the numerous guests, athletes Marianne Buggenhagen, Jan Gürtler, Tom Kierey, Lasse Klötzing and Thomas Ulbricht were introduced to the audience at the Sommerkino open-air cinema. In keeping with the occasion, the event was followed by a screening of documentary film Gold – You can do more than you think.

Update:
We would like to congratulate our athletes upon the medals that they won in Rio:

Marianne Buggenhagen – Silver, shot put
Tom Kierey – Silver, canoe (200 m)
Thomas Ulbricht – Bronze, 100 m sprint
